What's changing with Microsoft 365 licensing?
As of December 2024, La Salle University's licensing for the Microsoft 365 for Education program has changed. This new licensing means that there will be changes for access to Microsoft 365 applications for users at La Salle.
Who is affected?
While all accounts are moving to the new license structure, those moving to the A1 license will experience the most changes, as their eligibility to download the Office suite on personal devices will no longer be available.
Groups moving to A1 licenses
- Adjunct faculty
- Staff who are not issued a La Salle computer
- Affiliates
- Emeritus faculty

- Full-time faculty and staff who are issued a La Salle computer
- Students
How this change will affect access for those with the A1 licenses
Users moving to an A1 license will no longer be eligible to download or use the full Microsoft Office desktop applications on their personal devices. Classroom and lab computers, as well as shared computers used in on-campus offices, will continue to work. The web versions of the Office suite will be available for use at office.com.
In the event your license is changed to A1, any Office 365 desktop applications you've previously activated will become inactive within 90 days of your account being updated. Those applications periodically verify your license type when your computer is online. When it is detected that your license can no longer activate Office 365 applications, there will be an alert that the product is unlicensed at the top of the application window.
