Moving Canvas Videos: Panopto to Lumina Media

As La Salle transitions from Panopto to Lumina Media (YuJa), faculty teaching summer courses may choose to proactively move instructional videos into Lumina ahead of the migration completion time-line. Although existing Panopto videos are expected to migrate automatically and be re-linked within Canvas, faculty may choose to upload course media directly into Lumina.

How do I do it?

Step 1: Locate Your Video in Panopto

  1. Open your Canvas course.
  2. Select Panopto Video from the course navigation menu.
  3. Locate the video you would like to move into Lumina.

Step 2: Download the Video from Panopto

  1. Open the video in the Panopto viewer.
  2. Select the 3 dots in the upper-right above the video. From there, select Download podcast in the upper-right corner of the video window.
  3. Download the video as an MP4 file to your computer. (If not already titled, I suggest "course number_module_topic".)

Step 3a: Upload the Video to Canvas Page or Assignment

  1. Open your Canvas course.
  2. Open Canvas Page, Assignment, Discussion where the video should appear.
  3. Select the Lumina Media (YuJa) icon from the Rich Content Editor, and select Upload Media. If you do not see the Lumina icon, click the 3 dots to expand the tool view.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. Select your MP4 video from your computer or Drag and drop the video in to the space.
  5. Select Upload (bottom right corner)

Additional Notes

  • Uploaded videos will process automatically in Lumina.
  • Automatic captioning will be generated after processing.
  • Downloaded MP4 files from Panopto may not include captions, quizzes, or table-of-contents features.
  • Existing Panopto videos are still expected to migrate automatically as part of the institutional migration process. As such, in your Lumina storage, you may have two videos of the same name.
