About
Abnormal is an advanced email protection platform that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to detect and prevent email-based threats such as phishing, business email compromise (BEC) and account takeover. It uses behavioral-based AI to detect and block sophisticated email threats. Abnormal analyzes communication patterns and identifies unusual sender behavior.
Why are we using it?
La Salle receives a large amount of phishing attacks every day. These messages can result in compromised accounts, data breaches, and disruptions to academic and administrative work. Abnormal AI enables a faster response to threats, minimizing the impact and improving security for the university.
How does Abnormal's email protection impact me?
Abnormal AI is integrated with Microsoft 365 and will automatically detect dangerous and suspicious messages and remove them from your Inbox.
An email message appeared and disappeared from my inbox without me doing anything- should I be concerned?
Abnormal processes messages in a secure sandbox after they arrive in our email system. This can lead to messages being delivered and then remediated if deemed a threat. While this happens very quickly, you might notice a message appear and then disappear if you are actively monitoring your inbox. This is normal, but if you have any concerns please contact the IT Help Desk.
Where is my quarantined email?
Abnormal AI does not use a quarantine folder. Mail is routed automatically using AI.
What if I am missing an email or suspect Abnormal AI has made a mistake?
- Check your other folders. Sometimes messages are delivered, but routed to a folder:
- Junk- spam filtered by Microsoft, including newsletters, marketing messages, and bulk mail
- Other (if using Focused Inbox)- lower-priority messages
- Search your mailbox- use Outlook's search bar to search for sender name and subject keywords.
- Review your personal Outlook rules- user-created rules can move messages to custom folders, mark messages as read, or delete and archive messages automatically.
- If you still can't find the message, open a support ticket with the Help Desk. IT can check to see if the message was blocked, and correct misclassifications if needed.
What should I do if I find a suspicious email in my inbox?
Please report the message using the Outlook option to Report Phishing. Abnormal is closely integrated with Outlook and will help to assess the message.
Is Abnormal reading all my emails?
Abnormal processes and stores only the minimum amount of data, including personal data, necessary to enable it to perform its functions. It does not store, persist, or retain the contents of or attachments to email that the Abnormal identifies as non-malicious using its machine learning models; rather, only email content and attachments (if any) that it identifies as malicious are transferred to its cloud-based servers for further processing and analysis.
Can I opt-out?
No, you cannot opt out of email security.
