When it comes to reporting suspected phishing emails, seconds count! The sooner IT can send alerts to students, faculty, and staff, the greater the chance that we can protect someone from being victimized by criminals. And yes, members of the La Salle community have had their identities stolen or have lost money as a result of these scams.
That's why using the build-in phish reporting tools in the Outlook Desktop Client, Outlook Web Access, or Outlook Mobile is so important. Sending messages to the Helpdesk or forwarding them to someone in IT requires manual intervention and slows our response.
If you use the Outlook Desktop Client, the Report Message button, on right side of the Outlook Ribbon, provides one-click reporting of suspected phishing messages. In addition to phishing messages, you can use the Report Message tool to report spam messages or messages that Microsoft misdirected to your Junk folder.
If you do not see the Report Message button in your Outlook Desktop Client's ribbon bar, please contact the IT Helpdesk to have it installed. |
If you prefer Outlook Web Access or use Outlook Mobile on your smartphone, you also have options for fast reporting of suspected phishing emails.
Outlook Web Access users can select the email you would like to report, then click on the envelope icon at the top right-hand side of the email (Image 1), then use the Junk or the Phishing option to report spam or phishing (Image 2).

Report a Phishing Email on Outlook Mobile
On Outlook Mobile, select the email you want to report, then open the Elipisis ( ... ) Menu at the top of the smartphone screen.
Select the Report Junk option.
Then, select the Phishing option in the Report Junk sub-menu.
Both of these options speed IT's reponse to phishing messages.
