Windows Instructions to Remove McAfee and Install Carbon Black

About

McAfee anti-virus and Malwarebytes on University-issued employee devices will be replaced with VMware Carbon Black starting in December 2021. The process will require that your computer be rebooted up to two times while the old software is removed and the new software is installed. It may take up to an hour for the full process to complete.

To manually start the process and ensure that your device is updated at a preferable time, please complete the following steps prior to December 20, 2021. After that date the software installation process will be automatically deployed to your device.

Note for Laptop Users- Please ensure that you are connected to the La Salle network using a docking station, Ethernet cable, or using VPN. If using VPN, you will need to re-connect to the VPN after each reboot. If you receive a message that the installation has failed, please re-install the the software shown in steps 3-4 below.

Steps 

  1. Search for "Software Center" using the Search option on the Window Task Bar.

  2. Locate the Software Center application in the search results and Open it.

  3. Location the "Mcafee/Malwarebytes Removal" application and open it.

  4. Click the Install button to start the process.

  5. The installation process will take approximately 1 hour. It will begin by downloading files and then will proceed to automatically remove the old software and install the new software. Your device will need to reboot 1-2 times and after each reboot you will need to log back in to the device for the process to continue. While the installation is in process you will see the following pop-up.
