How To Update Windows 11 Computer and Software

About

Thoroughly follow and review the instructions below for the steps on updating your Windows 11 device and software to the latest versions. 

Environment

La Salle-issued Windows devices running Windows 11.  

Check For Windows Updates

  1. Click on the Windows Start icon in the bottom left hand corner or click the Windows key on your keyboard. Select the Settings application. 

     

  2. Select Windows Update > Check for Updates. It will start checking for updates and begin installing any required ones. 

     

  3. Meanwhile, you must also download any optional updates. Scroll down and click on Advanced options

     

  4. Click on Optional Updates.

     

  5. Check all of the boxes that are listed for both Windows Updates and Driver Updates. When finished, click Download and Install.

     

  6. You may be prompted to restart your device after all drivers and updates are installed. 
     

Updating with Software Center

  1. In the Windows Search bar, search for "Software Center". Locate and click on the application to open it.

     
  2. Click on Installation Status

     
  3.  Download all software by clicking on the application, then selecting Install. All applications, with the exception of Mcafee/Malwarebytes Removal-Carbon Black, should have the status of Installed. For any application that has a status of Failed, retry downloading the application by clicking on it and selecting Retry.
     

Updating Zoom

  1. Open the Zoom application on your device.
  2. Click on your initials icon in the top right corner and select Check for Updates

     
  3. If prompted that an update is available, click Install

     
  4. Your device will begin installing the update. You should see an image, similar to the one below, to indicate that the download is taking place. 

     
  5. Once finished, your Zoom application will automatically launch and display that your device has successfully been updated. 

     

Checking Browser for Updates

Google Chrome

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner. Navigate to Help > About Google Chrome

     
  3. A new window will pop up. Chrome will automatically begin installing the latest version.

     
  4. Once finished, you will need to relaunch your browser. Click on the Relaunch button.

     

Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Click on the three horizontal dots at the top corner of the browser. Select Help and feedback About Microsoft Edge.

     
  3. Edge will begin checking for updates. 
    • If your browser is up to date, you do not need to do anything.
    • If an update is available, click Download to install.
