How to Submit a Video Assignment in Canvas

Overview

The following article goes over how to create recordings with Panopto and submit them as assignments in Canvas. 

Add your Panopto Recording to a Canvas Assignment

1.  Navigate to your course in Canvas and then to the Assignments tab on the left. Select the assignment that you need to submit.

2. On the submission page, select the three vertical dots to expand the menu, then select the plug icon.

3.  In the window that appears, Select App, search for, and select the Panopto tool. Note: Depending on how your organization has the Panopto tool configured, it may have a different name

4. A window will appear that shows the embedded video selector. You have three options for embedding Panopto content. Please note: If available, you can record and edit your videos in your My Folder in Panopto; however, you will need to move the video into the course's assignment folder before submitting your video in the Canvas assignment. 

Choose: To choose an existing recording, browse through your available folders and select your video.

Choose your embedded player preferences under Video Embed Options and select InsertNote: To learn more about the Video Embed Options, see Learn About the Video Embed Options in an LMS.

Upload: To upload an existing file, select the Upload tab. On this tab, drag and drop up to 100 video or audio files at a time or click to browse your computer for files (Fig. 4c). After adjusting the Video Embed Options, and select InsertTo learn more about the Video Embed Options, see Learn About the Video Embed Options in an LMS.  Note: Panopto will use the file name as the session name, but you can rename this while the content is uploading.

Record: On the Record tab, select either Launch Capture to record with Panopto Capture or Launch App to record with Panopto for Windows or Panopto for Mac. Select Panopto submission window, Canvas. It is open to the Record tab, which shows the option to launch either the Desktop Application or CaptureOnce you are done, adjust the Video Embed Options and select InsertNote: the Launch Capture option may not be available to you, depending on how your local Panopto administrator has the site set up.

5.  Once insert has been selected, the video will appear in the assignment text editor. Complete the rest of the assignment and select Submit Assignment when you are ready to submit your assignment.

6. Once the assignment has been submitted, you will receive a message at the top of the screen saying that it has been successfully submitted. Your teacher will now be able to watch your Panopto recording.
