Classroom Guide - Hayman 102

About

This article contains steps for using the classroom projection set up in Hayman Hall Rm 102. This article offers help on using the projector, checking for sound teaching.

*Note: this classroom does not have laptop connection capabilities.*

Getting Started

  •  Press “ON” on the controller. The projector will turn on, and be displayed on the SmartBoard.

  • Now that the projector is on, select the video source you would like to display. For the room PC select “PC”, and check to make sure that the PC is powered on.

  • This room is only equipped with one video source, the room PC. There is no way to connect a laptop in this room
  • If you are using audio in your class, I recommend testing it now before you get started. Please keep in mind that there are multiple stages of volume control in a classroom. Make sure your volume is turned up on the computer. Also, make sure the volume on the video you are playing is turned up. Lastly, there is also volume controls on the podium controller, so ensure that is turned up as well.

Shutting Down

  • When you are done using the room, please press “OFF”. The projector will turn off. Please leave the PC on, it needs to stay on to receive updates.

Advanced Tips

  • Video Mute
    • Most classrooms have a “Video Mute” function to quickly turn the screen black so you can check your email or do other private things without needing to fully power off the projector. This will be on the controller labeled as “Video Mute”, “PIC MUTE”, or Just “MUTE”. Feel free to use this, but keep in mind, most professors do not use this feature, so you must de-activate it before you are done using the room.

  • Using Windows+P
    • When you are using the projector, you can change the display settings to 4 different display modes. You can bring up the pop-up menu for this setting using the keyboard shortcut: Windows Key () + P. Once the menu appears in the bottom right corner of the screen you can choose the following options:
      • PC Screen Only – Shows only the PC screen, the projector will be black
      • Duplicate – Everything shown on the PC will be duplicated 1 for 1 on the projector. This is the most common setting and what I recommend for most users.
      • Extend – The projector will be treated as a 2nd monitor. You will have to drag things over to the projector in order for them to be displayed.
      • Second Screen Only – Only the projector will be shown, the PC screen will be black.
