Classroom Guide - Founders Hall

About

  • This article contains steps for using the classroom projection set up in Founders Hall. This article offers help on using the projector, checking for sound, and connecting a laptop for teaching.

Getting Started

  • Press anywhere on the touchscreen to begin. Then, Press “ON” on the touchscreen. The projector will turn on, and the screen will lower.

  • Now that the projector is on, select the video source you would like to display. For the room PC select “PC”, and check to make sure that the PC is powered on.

  • For a laptop select, “HDMI” and plug in the laptop to the HDMI cable located on the podium. You should now see your video source displayed on the projector.

  • If you are using audio in your class, I recommend testing it now before you get started. Please keep in mind that there are multiple stages of volume control in a classroom. Make sure your volume is turned up on the computer. Also, make sure the volume on the video you are playing is turned up. Lastly, there is also volume controls on the podium controller, so ensure that is turned up as well.

Shutting Down

  • When you are done using the room, please press “Turn Off”. A pop up will appear, select “Power Down”. The projector will turn off and the screen will rise up. Please leave the PC on, it needs to stay on to receive updates.

Advanced Tips

  • Using the PTZ Camera for Hybrid Learning
    • This room has an integrated camera system and microphones for hybrid learning.
    • If you are using the Room PC, open a Zoom meeting on the PC. Once, in the meeting, ensure that your microphone source is set to “Digital Input (XI100DUSB-HDMI Audio)” and that your video source is set to “XI100DUSB-HDMI Video”. Once those settings are correct you are ready to begin your meeting. If you would like to record, select “Record” and then “Record to the cloud”

  • If you are using a laptop, plug the USB cable on the desk into your laptop. Now, your laptop will have access to that same PTZ camera and microphones. Repeat the steps above in your Zoom settings and you are ready to start using the camera/mics on your laptop.

Using PTZ Controls

  • To begin using the PTZ camera, press the “PTZ Control” button on the bottom left of the screen. This will open a controls page where you can move the camera left, right, up, and down. You also can zoom in and out. The speed setting changes how fast the camera moves when you change it’s position.
  • Once you find a camera position you like, you can save it by holding one of the preset buttons for 3 seconds (until it blinks). Then you can press that button again to quickly return the camera to that saved position.

  • Using Windows+P
    • When you are using the projector, you can change the display settings to 4 different display modes. You can bring up the pop-up menu for this setting using the keyboard shortcut: Windows Key () + P. Once the menu appears in the bottom right corner of the screen you can choose the following options:
      • PC Screen Only – Shows only the PC screen, the projector will be black
      • Duplicate – Everything shown on the PC will be duplicated 1 for 1 on the projector. This is the most common setting and what I recommend for most users.
      • Extend – The projector will be treated as a 2nd monitor. You will have to drag things over to the projector in order for them to be displayed.
      • Second Screen Only – Only the projector will be shown, the PC screen will be black.

  • Backup screen controls
    • Every classroom with an electronic screen has a secondary screen control unit near the podium. If the normal controller is giving you issues, or if it provides convenience for you, feel free to use these controls to raise/lower the screen.
