Dan Rodden Theater AV Guide

Getting Started

When you first come in, go over to the touch screen, log in with the password “1900”, and hit the projector “On” button which is on the top left of the touchscreen. Next select your desired source at the top. Once the projector boots up and you are able to see your selected source, you are done with the touchscreen for now. If you don’t see anything, refer to the troubleshooting section of this guide.

Now, it’s time to take care of the audio. Take the cover off of the mixer, and turn it on (the switch is on the back). Once it is on, turn up the sliders on channels 1-8 about 60% of the way up, and do the same for the slider all the way to the right labeled “MAIN”

Now that the mixer is set up, we can test our audio. First, play any kind of audio through the computer that you have connected to the projector to ensure its audio is working.

Next, make your way to the stage, and test the podium microphone.

Next, go to the area behind the stage where the wireless microphones are stored. Grab the amount of microphones you need from the cabinet, and turn them on to test them. If at any point you didn’t hear audio from one of the things you tested, refer to the troubleshooting section of this guide.

Okay, so now you have you video and audio set up and tested. You are good to go for whatever event is going on!

When your event is done, please return all the microphones used to where you got them from, and put them in the properly labeled microphone cases. Then, go ahead and hit the “Turn Off” button on the touch screen. Next, turn off the mixer using the switch on the back and cover it.

General Tips

Things to keep in mind are that if there are presentations or PowerPoints being shown, then get the presentation materials as soon as possible and load them up on the projector ahead of time.

Also, as the event goes on you may have multiple people speaking into the microphones. Feel free to adjust the volume on the mixer based on how loud the speaker is at the time (having the sliders at 60% will be fine for most speakers though).

NEVER TURN OFF ANY OF THE EQUIPMENT IN THE ROOM BACKSTAGE

Also, please do not turn off the breaker labeled as “Stage Outlet #1” as that powers the podium equipment.

Troubleshooting

Projector Issues
If you’ve turned on the Projector and selected your desired source, yet the source still isn’t reaching the projector, please check the following:

Check behind the PC. There should be a black HDMI to Display Port converter plugged onto it. Make sure the HDMI is plugged into the converter, and that the converter is then plugged into the PC.

The other end of this HDMI chord plugs into the HDMI port that’s on the white box that’s located to the side of the computer. You should see a green light if you are transmitting a signal to the port successfully.

Audio Issues

If you have the image on the projector, but still aren’t getting sound, and the sound isn’t muted anywhere, click the sound icon in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Then, click the sound source that is listed. This will make all the available sound sources appear. Make sure you are on the correct choice for your event.
Use “Normal Use” for more basic events. Volume control will then be on the touchscreen.

For more complex events (The Masque), use the “SoundBoard AUX 1” option and make sure that the AUX volume knobs on the right hand side of the soundboard are turned up.

Microphone Issues
Make sure the mixer is on and the main output slider is turned up and ensure that it is not muted (the square above the slider is red when muted). Then turn the slider up for channels 1-8 (these are the channels the wireless microphones use).

Also, keep in mind you cannot use a lavalier that is labeled the same number as a handheld currently in use. (ex. You can’t use Lavalier Mic 1, if you are already using Handheld Mic 1). Keep in mind, it is totally okay to use both microphone types, as long as the numbers don’t match (ex. using Handheld 1 and Lavalier 2)

Podium Issues
It’s possible the event before yours may have moved the podium and left it unplugged.
To fix this open up the hatch in the ground by where the podium is, and plug all 3 connections back in (power/audio/ethernet). Once you do this, you will be able to see and hear anything connected to the podium setup once again.
