What is VirtualBox?
VirtualBox is a virtualization tool that will allow you to run Windows and PC applications (like Microsoft Access) on your Mac.
Please note that the performance of your virtual machine depends on your Mac’s hardware. If you are using an older Mac that does not have a quad-core processor or has 4GB of RAM or less, you may notice some slowness when using the virtual machine. Other programs outside of VirtualBox may be slow to respond in this case as well.
Part 1- Install VirtualBox
Step 1
Download VirtualBox
Click ‘OS X hosts’ to download VirtualBox.
Step 2
Open the downloaded DMG file.
Step 3
Double click the VirtualBox.pkg icon and click the following options:
If you have not previously installed an Oracle application, it is likely that the installation will fail after you click install and input your computer password. If this happens you will receive a System Extension Blocked error, click Open Security Preferences.
In Security & Privacy, click the lock in the bottom left corner and input your password to unlock the menu. After it is unlocked, click allow and restart the installation of VirtualBox.
Step 4
After the installation is complete, move the installer to the trash.
Part 2- Install Windows inside of VirtualBox

Download Windows 10 ISO
Step 6
Select Windows 10 for the edition then click confirm. When prompted select your language and click confirm.
Step 7
On the following page, download the 64-bit version of Windows.
Step 8
Start VirtualBox.
Step 9
Click New to create a new virtual machine.
Step 10
Name the VM and select the following settings during the creation process:
- Type: Microsoft Windows
- Version: Windows 10 (64-bit)
- Memory Size: 2048 MB If your computer has more than 8GB of ram or more increase this to 4096
- Hard disk: Create a virtual hard disk now
- Hard disk file type: VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)
- Storage on physical hard disk: Dynamically allocated
- File location and size: default location and size (50.00 GB)

Now that the VM has been created, go to your downloads and open the Windows 10 ISO file that was downloaded earlier so that it is mounted.
Step 12
After the folder is mounted, open VirtualBox. Select your VM in the left part of the window and then click Start.

Select the ISO file to start the installation process, if it is not selected automatically, click the folder icon. (If it automatically loads like in this screenshot skip to step 16):

Click Add and navigate to the ISO file. Select the file and click Open.

The first-time boot wizard will start when the VM boots. Choose your language and keyboard, click next and then click Install Windows.

On the next screen, click I don’t have a product key.
Step 18
Select Windows 10 Pro and click next.
Step 19
Check the ‘I accept the license terms’ box and click next.
Step 20
Click ‘Custom: Install Windows Only’.
Step 21
Select Drive 0 and click next.
Step 22
Select ‘Set up for an organization’ and click next.
Step 23
Input your La Salle email address and press next.
Step 24
Input your email password and click next.
Step 25
If you have Multi-Factor Authentication enabled on your email account input your pin. If not, skip this step.
Step 26
Select your privacy settings and click Accept.
Step 27
On the next step click No.

Next you will have to set up a PIN to log on to your VM. Click Set up PIN.

Make your PIN and click Next. If you are using a Mac with 4GB of memory or less this step could take between 1-3 hours depending on what other applications are being used while Windows installs.
Part 3 - Setup a Shared Folder
Your VirtualBox VM should now be set up after windows installs however before you can actually use your new VM, you will need to enable a shared folder. This folder is used to access files on your Mac from your VM. If you do not have a shared folder, then you will be unable to transfer files between your computer and the VM. To configure a shared folder, your VM must be powered off.
Step 1
In VirtualBox open the settings and select the Shared Folders tab.
Step 2
Select the Add new shared folder button.
Step 3
Click the dropdown for Folder Path and select Other. Open a folder such as your desktop, documents, etc. The folder name should fill in automatically with the same name of the folder you select. Make sure that Read-Only is unchecked and Auto-mount is checked. Click OK. All program configuration is complete.
NOTES
When using the Virtual Machine, the program may refer to your “Host Key”. By default, the host key is set to the Left Command button.
Make sure that when using the computer, you have clicked inside of the VM window before attempting to do anything or those actions will go to your Mac computer, not the VM.
When downloading your Windows ISO, it can be transferred to the VM with the shared folder set up earlier in these instructions if it is downloaded on your Mac.
When using the VM your mouse and keyboard will be locked to that window. To unlock them, press your Host Key button (Left Command by default).
If you are in Full-Screen and need to exit, the window can be taken out of Full-Screen mode by pressing Left Command + F
Part 3- Install Office for PC on Windows inside of VirtualBox
After your Virtual Machine finishes installing windows and boots to the homepage. Follow these steps to install Microsoft Office with Access. Do not do this on your Mac browser but in Microsoft Edge in the Virtual Machine.
Step 1
Log in to your student email address at login.microsoftonline.com
Step 2
Click on Install Office followed by 'Office 365 apps'
Step 3
Run the installer after it is finished downloading. Click Yes to confirm when prompted. You must be connected to the internet.
Step 4
After the installation is complete, start any Office program and select ‘Get Started’ or ‘Activate Office’.
Step 5
Log in with your student email address.
If you are prompted to choose between ‘Work or school account’ or ‘Personal Account’ choose ‘Work or school account’
Step 6
Accept the license agreements and click Continue.
Step 7
Office is now installed and activated.
