Creating strong passwords is vital to staying safe online and protecting your personal information.  Cybersecurity professionals encourage users to create long, strong, and unique passwords for every account, using more than 16 characters - both upper and lower case letters, some numbers, and special symbols - and never reuse them.  Further, they should not be dictionary words or easily researched information about you such as birth date, anniversary date, street name, family or pet names, etc.  How are you supposed to remember all of those strong, random, and unique passwords, though?  The simple answer is a "password manager."

Password managers do much of the heavy lifting for you. They help you create stronger passwords and store them for all your accounts, and all you need to remember is one password - the one to access the password manager.  These convenient features extend beyond just your computer and can be used on other devices like your phone and tablet.  There are many good password managers available and some are available at no charge.  KeePass is available for use on La Salle devices.  After KeePass is installed, you can refer to the attached instructions to help you get set up and start using KeePass to help you create and store all of your passwords.
