Step-by-Step Guide to Keeping Your Software Current

What is it?

Panopto will roll out mandatory client upgrades in the evening on the third Thursday of July to all Cloud environments. It is strongly encourage for all users to update to the latest available versions of the Panopto clients: Panopto for Mac.

Why is it important?

These updated versions include the latest features, performance enhancements, and security updates. The consistency in the upgrade policy is important, and we wanted to clearly communicate this adjustment for the current year. We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to take advantage of the improvements in the newest client versions.

How do I do it?

From inside one of your Canvas courses, select Panopto Video from the course navigation menu (on the left-hand side of the screen).

Installation

From inside your Canvas course, select Panopto Video for the navigation menu.

Once open select the + Create button and then select Panopto for Windows.

Select Create button for option to download.

Select Cancel to move on with the process.

The Record a new session window will appear. On it, select Download Installer for Mac. The file will automatically download to your computer. 

Select the appropriate version for Macs.

Run the Panopto.pkg file and select Continue.

Select the Continue button.
After you select the drive where you want to install "Panopto for Mac" in the Destination Select tab, you will be taken to the Installation Type tab, where you need to select Install. 

Select the Install button.
If prompted, insert credentials for installation. Select Install Software.

Select Install Software button.


Select Close when you see the installation was successful.

Select the Close button.

Security Prompt 

When you proceed with the installation steps on macOS 10.14 or later, a warning prompt will appear. This prompt is shown because the installer needs to set up a new user account that is used by the background upload service. The installer does not take any additional action with this highest privilege even though the prompt says it may modify the password, networking, and system settings.

Select OK to finalize the installation. 
Select OK on the warning to allow the installer to configure your computer properly for upload. Note: If you do not click OK, video uploads will not complete successfully. 

In Canvas

From here, you will want to refresh your Canvas connection by refreshing your browser page.
