About
This article contains steps for using the classroom projection setup in Holroyd Science Center, Rm 182. This article offers help on using the projector, checking for sound, and connecting a laptop for teaching. This article also contains instructions for using the OWL camera for hybrid learning.
Getting Started
Press anywhere on the touchscreen. The two projectors will turn on
Now that the projector is on, select the video source you would like to display. For the room PC select “Room PC”, and check to make sure that the PC is powered on (it is in a rack under the podium).
For a laptop select, “Laptop” and plug in the laptop to the HDMI cable located on the podium. You should now see your video source displayed on the projector.
If you are using audio in your class, I recommend testing it now before you get started. Please keep in mind that there are multiple stages of volume control in a classroom. Make sure your volume is turned up on the computer. Also, make sure the volume on the video you are playing is turned up. Lastly, there is also volume controls on the podium controller, so ensure that it is turned up as well.
If you have followed these steps, and you do not see and/or hear the PC or laptop you are trying to present, then please refer to the Common Classroom Issues Guide

Shutting Down
When you are done using the room, please press “Done”. A pop-up will appear; select “Yes, Turn Off.” The projector will turn off. Please leave the PC on; it needs to stay on to receive updates.
Advanced Tips
Using the OWL Camera for Hybrid Learning:
This room has an OWL camera/microphone for hybrid learning.
To use this device, you must use the room PC.
Open a Zoom meeting on the PC. Once, in the meeting, ensure that your microphone source is set to “Echo-Cancelling Speakerphone” and that your video source is set to “Meeting OWL Camera”. Once those settings are correct, you are ready to begin your meeting. If you would like to record, select “Record” and then “Record to the cloud”
Using Windows+P
When you are using the projector, you can change the display settings to 4 different display modes. You can bring up the pop-up menu for this setting using the keyboard shortcut: Windows Key (
⊞
) + P. Once the menu appears in the bottom right corner of the screen, you can choose the following options:
PC Screen Only – Shows only the PC screen; the projector will be black
Duplicate – Everything shown on the PC will be duplicated 1:1 on the projector. This is the most common setting and what I recommend for most users.
Extend – The projector will be treated as a 2
nd
monitor. You will have to drag things over to the projector in order for them to be displayed.
Second Screen Only – Only the projector will be shown; the PC screen will be black.
Backup screen controls
Every classroom with an electronic screen has a secondary screen control unit near the podium. If the normal controller is giving you issues, or if it provides convenience for you, feel free to use these controls to raise/lower the screen.
