Guideline for Student Laptop Loaners

Student Laptop Loaners: Request, Pickup, and Return Instructions

La Salle University maintains a limited number of laptops that may be loaned to currently enrolled students who need a computer for academic purposes.  Laptop loaners are intended to provide temporary access to a computer for students who need one during the academic term. These guidelines designate the procedure for requesting, obtaining, and returning a laptop loaner.

Eligibility

Laptop loaners are available to active students who are registered for the current semester.

How to Request a Laptop

Students must submit an IT - Laptop Loaner Request through SoftDocs eForms.

For complete step-by-step instructions, including screen shots, refer to:

How to Submit a Laptop Loaner Request

The request form must be completed in full before it can be reviewed.

After Submitting the Request Form

Once the form is submitted, your request will be reviewed. If your request is approved and a laptop is available, the IT Help Desk will contact you through your La Salle email with information about picking up the device. If your request is approved but no laptops are currently available, you may be placed on a wait list and contacted when a device is available.

You will receive a confirmation email once the laptop is available to be picked up. Please continue to monitor your La Salle email after submitting your request.

Picking Up Your Laptop

Once you receive confirmation that your laptop is ready, follow the pickup instructions provided by the IT Help Desk.

Laptop loaners are issued at:

La Salle University IT Help Desk

Hayman Hall 200

When your laptop is issued, a Help Desk technician will:

  • Provide a brief orientation on using the device.
  • Review the software installed on the laptop.
  • Assist with additional academic software when appropriate licensing is available.
  • Establish the date by which the laptop and charger must be returned.

A laptop and charger may be borrowed for a maximum of one semester.

Laptop loans do not automatically renew.

If you need a laptop for another semester, you must return your current laptop and charger by the assigned due date and submit a new IT - Laptop Loaner Request.

Returning Your Laptop

All issued equipment must be returned to the La Salle University IT Help Desk located at Hayman Hall 200 by the assigned due date.

Please return:

  • The La Salle-issued laptop with the charger
  • Any other equipment issued with the laptop

Students are responsible for backing up any files they wish to keep. La Salle University is not responsible for data loss associated with the use or return of a loaner laptop. Consider saving important files to OneDrive or another appropriate storage location before returning the device.

Borrower Responsibilities

While the laptop and charger are checked out to you, they remain the property of La Salle University and are intended for your individual academic use.

Students are responsible for:

  • Keeping the laptop and charger secure.
  • Protecting the equipment from damage, loss, theft, and misuse.
  • Not lending the equipment to another person.
  • Reporting hardware problems or damage to the Help Desk promptly.
  • Backing up personal files.
  • Returning all equipment by the assigned due date.
  • Following La Salle University's Information Technology Acceptable Use and Privacy Policy.

Students should not attempt to repair, open, modify, or take University equipment to an outside repair provider.

Laptop loaners and chargers must be returned by their assigned due date unless an extension has been approved in advance. Failure to return the equipment or returning equipment with damage beyond normal wear may result in an incident being referred to the Office of Student Conduct. This can include loss of eligibility for future equipment loans, a hold being placed on the student's University account, and repair or replacement charges being applied to the student's account. An account hold may affect registration, transcripts, diplomas, and graduation clearance until the equipment is returned.
