Security Awareness Training FAQ

Why do I need to take the Security Awareness Training course?

The more the La Salle community knows about cybersecurity, the stronger our defenses will be against cyber attacks upon the University. Security Awareness Training is the principal method for us to educate employees about security risks and actions that can be taken to reduce the risks of a cyber attack. In addition, La Salle is subject to regulatory requirements which direct that employees complete training at least annually. Finally, this training is also a major requirement of insurance companies before they will provide cyber-insurance to cover any cyber-incident that may befall the University.

Am I required to take the Security Awareness Training course?

Yes. For the reasons stated above, all faculty, staff, adjunct and emeritus faculty, Christian Brothers, and other affiliates who have access to La Salle systems are required to complete security awareness training on an annual basis.

How do I take the course?

The Information Technology Department is proud to announce its new partnership with KnowBe4 in our ongoing commitment to information security training and awareness.  The 2023 online security awareness training is now available in KnowBe4.  To access the training, please visit KnowBe4 and enter your La Salle email address to sign in. Your Dashboard will list the training modules that you have been assigned to complete. What can I expect to learn?

Many cybersecurity topics are covered, such as the dangers of malware, reporting, passwords and MFA, managing and protecting sensitive data, and the various forms of social engineering, including Phishing. The information presented in this course will be beneficial in your professional and personal life.

What if I don’t take the course?

As it was previously explained, compliance with this annual requirement is essential to the security of La Salle University, and non compliance can have serious ramifications for you and the University.

If you don’t complete the course as required, you will be viewed as a high risk for cyber attacks, and your access to certain University applications and systems may be restricted or revoked.

Failure to comply with the annual employee training requirement, as well as with the technologies and processes in place to measure our cybersecurity risks, could subject La Salle to significant government sanctions with devastating financial and legal consequences. Non compliance could also prevent La Salle from obtaining and maintaining cyber-insurance. Without cyber insurance, a cyber attack against La Salle could be catastrophic, costing the University millions of dollars, and consequential damage to La Salle's reputation.
