Windows 11
Windows 11, Microsoft’s newest Operating System, is now available at La Salle University! Windows 11 brings with it a number of new features, a refreshed user interface, and critical security updates. Throughout 2024, Technology Support Services (Helpdesk) will be upgrading our managed Windows computers to this operating system. The guide below outlines the schedule and next steps.

Upgrade Schedule
- Spring 2024
- Any new or upgraded faculty/staff computers will have Windows 11 installed by default
- Early faculty/staff adopter requests will be scheduled in March
- Following the early adopters, Faculty/staff will begin receiving communications to self-install Windows 11 upgrades on their device or schedule upgrade appointments
- Summer 2024
- Technology Support Services staff will install Windows 11 on all classrooms, computer labs, and conference rooms
- Faculty/staff self-install upgrades or scheduled appointments will continue
- Fall 2024
- Any remaining devices will be upgraded or taken offline
Preparing for Your Upgrade
We're working to make this update as seamless as possible, but there are a couple of things you can do to ensure a smooth transition:

FAQ
What happens to the software programs on my computer during the upgrade?
During the upgrade process, software installed on the computer may be upgraded to a newer version. Not only will this help make sure the software functions properly for the new Operating System but it will also apply security updates to maintain the safety of your device.
What if I don't want to upgrade my computer to Windows 11?
We appreciate that change can sometimes take time to adjust to. Microsoft and various software vendors are already starting to move away from Windows 10 though and that will only accelerate. Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 broadly in October of 2025. To protect your data and the security of La Salle University, Windows 10 computers will need to be upgraded, replaced, or removed before support ends.
How do I move the Start menu back to the left side of the task bar?
Click the Start menu icon, then go to Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Taskbar Behavior > click the drop-down menu on the Taskbar Alignment, and choose left.
