How to Prepare Your Android Phone for Passkey Setup

About

Your phone must be running Android version 14 or newer to use passkeys. Supported devices include Samsung Galaxy S21 and newer models, as well as Google Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5, and newer models.

Please follow the instructions below to prepare your Android phone before continuing with the passkey setup.

How to Check Your Phone's Android Version

1. Go to Settings
   
    
2. Scroll and Press About Phone
   
    
3. Press Software Information
   
    
4. Check your phone's Android Version
   
   
   If you cannot upgrade to Android version 14 or greater, you should contact the IT Helpdesk to discuss alternatives. 

How to check the Microsoft Authenticator Version On Android Phone

1. Go to your Microsoft Authenticator App
   
    
2. Press the three dots (⋮) in the top right
   
    
3. Press Help
   
    
4. Scroll down to About and check the version
   
   
    

How to update Microsoft Authenticator If Less Than Version 6.2404.2444 

1. Go to Play Store
   
    
2. Press Search (Magnifying glass)
   
    
3. Type in the search bar "Microsoft Authenticator app"  and press the first result.

4. If you see Open, the app is already up to date. Or If you see Update, tap it
   
   
    

Let's Configure The Authenticator Access to Passkeys

1. Go to Settings
   
    
2. Go to Security and privacy
   
    
3. Press More security settings
   
    
4. Press Passwords, passkeys, and autofill
   ​​​​​​​
    
5. Verify that the sliders for Microsoft Authenticator are turned on
   
    
6. Your phone is now ready for passkey setup. Return to the How to Create a Microsoft Authenticator App MFA Passkey article and continue with the Complete Your Passkey Setup section.
