About
All La Salle users will need to complete the initial setup steps to configure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for their LUNA account. MFA refers to using two or more independent items to verify your identity, usually something you know (i.e., your password) and something you have (i.e., time-based code, hardware token).
Things to Know
You can have more than one MFA method
You can enroll multiple methods for your account and use whichever one is most convenient at the time you sign in. For example, you could have:
- A passkey on your smartphone
- Microsoft Authenticator number matching using the app on your smartphone
- A passkey on a hardware security key (Yubikey)
You are not locked into your choice
You can update your account settings to add and remove options.
Your biometric information stays on your device
Microsoft and La Salle do not receive your fingerprint, facial recognition info, or device PIN. These stay on your device and are only used to verify that you want to use the passkey saved on that device to sign in.
Passkeys are recommended when available
Passkeys are phishing-resistant and are recommended to use when available. Some applications may not work with passkeys, so it is important to have a second factor available on your account to use when needed.
Enroll in a backup MFA method
Having two or more methods available will allow you to access your LUNA account if your primary device is lost, stolen, replaced, or otherwise unavailable.
