What are the benefits of using soft phones?

  • Ease of use: access meetings, phone, and SMS capabilities all on the same device.
Note, SMS messages are limited to groups of no more than 10 phone numbers.
  • Mobility: use your Zoom Phone wherever you go.
  • Cost savings: Use your La Salle-issued computers without the need for additional desk hardware and other infrastructure.

Will my phone number change?

No. Most phone numbers will be retained and moved to the new system.

Do I have to be logged in to Zoom to make and receive phone calls?

Yes, in order to make or receive phone calls you will have to be logged in to the zoom application on your device.

Can I call 911 with Zoom Phone?

Yes. Please review the Zoom Emergency Address Setup article.

Why is Zoom asking for my location?

Your location information is set automatically when you are connected on La Salle's campus network. The application may ask you to enter your location if you are off campus. Please review the Zoom Emergency Address Setup article to learn more about why your location information is needed.

I currently have multiple phone lines on my phone. Will this work in Zoom Phone?

Yes, Zoom Phone does support accessing and managing multiple phone lines from your account.

Will we be able to keep our desk phones?

Zoom Phone is a software-based solution and will not work with your desk phone. All Avaya phones will be collected as part of this project.

A limited number of physical phones will be installed in specific conference rooms, offices with service desks, and other locations. Faculty/staff users are encouraged to use a headset to connect to their computers to make calls.

Am I required to use my personal cell phone?

No. Your La Salle-issued computer will be the primary device to access your Zoom phone. Using the Zoom app on your personal device is optional.

Can I use my own headset?

Yes, you can use the headset you already have.

Will a headset be provided?

IT will distribute a limited supply of headsets during the system launch for full-time faculty and staff. Additional headsets can be purchased through Office Depot. Please review the Recommended Headset article.

Will we still be able to use 4-digit dialing between campus phones?

Yes. Type a number (or a name) in the Zoom software's dial pad to search and make a call.

Will I still need to dial "9" to call off campus?

No, you will no longer need to dial "9" to get to an outside line.

Will calls in Zoom interrupt my meetings?

No. You can hide notifications of incoming calls anytime, or instead you can let the call arrive and choose to send it right to voicemail, put your meeting on hold to answer, or merge the call into the meeting.

Will people see my personal number in Caller ID when I use Zoom from my personal device?

No. If you choose to make a call from the Zoom app on your personal device, the people receiving your call will see your La Salle phone number. There are two instances where callers could see your personal number: you have manually entered it into your Zoom profile, or you have enabled "Phone Contacts Matching" in the Zoom app on your device.
