Allows students to sync course content for offline, read-only access, enhancing flexibility and productivity even when Internet connectivity is unreliable.
Smart Search in Canvas leverages AI to search course content, including pages, announcements, discussion prompts, and assignment descriptions. It supports multilingual queries, allowing non-native speakers to search in their native languages, though performance may vary.
Combining both of these features enhances content consumption, particularly for learners using mobile devices for their studies. By optimizing screen space and providing a streamlined interface, users can engage more effectively with course materials, leading to improved focus and retention, regardless of the device they are using.
Currently, when a new announcement is created and synced from a blueprint course, students in associated courses aren’t notified, which can be frustrating for teachers. A common workaround was to set a 15-minute delay on announcements, hoping the sync completed in time to trigger notifications. With this new setting, teachers can simply check the Enable New Item Notifications checkbox to notify students about specific synced announcements, without relying on time-sensitive workarounds.
The "View Ungraded as Zero" feature in Canvas allows instructors to see total scores in the Gradebook as if all ungraded assignments were given a score of zero. This setting is purely visual and does not affect actual grades for students. To enable this feature, instructors can access the Gradebook settings and select the appropriate checkbox, which will display the adjusted totals in the assignment groups and total columns.
